Motility refers to the movement of food, liquids and waste through the digestive tract. Motility problems greatly impair the body’s ability to successfully digest food. These problems include motion in the wrong direction, such as GERD and vomiting; too little motion, such as constipation and digestive impedance (blockage); and uncontrolled or unwanted motion, such as incontinence or diarrhea. Symptoms of motility disorders may be heart burn and stomach and bowel pains.
